Plan to be a part of Chase Centennial 2008 Parade!

The Chase Centennial Parade will take place on Saturday, August 2nd, 2008.  It will begin at 11:00 a.m. and travel along a route which has, as yet, not been finalized.  The theme of the parade is “historical” of course, as we celebrate our Centennial and reflect on the past 100 years in Chase.

We anticipate having a large number of entries in the parade with floats depicting various aspects of life in Chase over the past 100 years and marching bands to build excitement and entertain the crowds.  We also expect to see many heritage vehicles including antique cars, and old style agricultural and logging equipment.  We’re also hoping to have many horse-drawn and mounted entries, a large contingent of First Nation’s entrants, and a variety of novelty acts.

We are looking for lots of community involvement and will be distributing Parade entry forms in November 2007.  We’re asking for entries to be in by April so that we can arrange meals and accommodation for out of town entrants and design our parade so that the entries fit well together.  If you are interested in having an entry in our Centennial Parade, you can pick up entry forms at the Chase Wellness Centre, or at the Chase Chamber of Commerce Info Centre beginning November 15, 2007.  If you need more information, please call Joan Anderson (679-2907) after Nov.1.

As well, we’re really encouraging people watching the parade to be dressed in period costumes.  If you need help in putting together your costume, we can provide ideas.  Watch for displays of costumes at various functions around town in the coming months, or call Susan Park (679-8526) with your questions.

We need volunteers to work with the Parade in a variety of capacities:
Office work
: recording entries, organizing billets, bookkeeping, etc.
Route preparation
: ensuring route is marked and free of hazards
Route supervision
: assisting during parade to ensure route is clear
Crowd control along parade route
Marshalling entries
Traffic & Parking control
Etc.

If you would like to volunteer in any area or to assist with the parade, please call Joan Anderson at 679-2907 or leave a message with Barbara Maher at 679-3442.
